![]() No matter, I have my USB install of High Sierra which is the latest this machine can run. OK, I restored but the current apps won't run under 10.7. I was puzzled to find that in its history of backups, none had the 10.12. The HD failed and I replaced it with an SSD and ran the Restore from Time Machine. Restore from Time Machine loads old OS I have an older MBP 13-inch, A1278, that had 10.12 on it with current Time Machine backups. Thanks Apple - "Look what you've done to my boy!" 570 3 I saw another post that said I could install the originally installed OS on the machine by doing a restore from the internet, but then what - if I can't bump the machine up to a newer OS (not Monterey!!), then I'm still stuck. If anybody knows something I don't, I would love to hear it. I'm not interested in getting more memory and an SSD drive to help with performance (it is such a dog). I even checked out non-Apple sites, but thought the better of it. ANY OS that is compatible with this lowly mini. Tried every conceivable method to get a proper working copy of the OS. I can see the preview page for a bunch of OS's, but I can't download anything on another machine - to make a bootable USB device - and then wipe and start fresh. Using other Macs, I've gone to the "support" page and follow the trail to the OS I want to try - takes me to the App Store, no download or get button. I can't download anything other than Monterey. ![]() I've done it before on other machines in my home. I wiped the drive hoping that I could just install something newer than 10.11 via USB. Luckily, I backed up the important stuff. Instead I ended up with Montezuma's revenge. I was just hoping to get something newer than 10.11. I'm really upset I couldn't even get her Mac mail to work (Google server). The first problem is that it runs like molasses in winter. After a couple hours, I had the new operating system. It was time to update the OS - finally - So I started the process. ![]() Where to find older MacOS for download My Wife's Mac mini (Late 2014). anyway I put the "correct" password in and it says its unrecognized, the password hint box that pops up actually has the password and its the one I'm trying and nada, I did try some variations but again nada, could this be because the drive has such an old OS on it? or something else that I might be able to correct? so I can get such an old backup working again, I'm more interested in what I was doing in 2015 than anything and just getting High Sierra on the now working iMac is my primary goal here. Q2: I put a 2015 Time Machine backup I have on the new drive, it obviously wants a password which I have because I keep records unlike all my friends and family who cannot be bothered with keeping track of passwords and such. can I use a flash drive and get it that way? or put it on my MacBook Pro and use magic to transfer it?. ![]() Q1: I just installed an SSD upgrade kit into a broken Mid 2011 iMac (12,1) that worked till 2018 then the HHD broke, the install was easy and getting into internet recovery was also easy, but the internet installer only gave me Lion 10.7 which doest work with anything online like safari and the App Store but iTunes does work?, no safari so I'm unable to go to apple and get anything, the App Store does not connect so thats off the table, and I do not know how to get a copy of High Sierra for free without having to buy a High Sierra boot off of Amazon ($25.00).
